DWP win at 1st Northern Masters at Blackpool Tower Ballroom

Many congratulations to all the teams and couples from the various dance schools who performed at the 1st Northern Masters competition at Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 6th February 2010.

It was a very successful competition for DWP. In the formation competitions, the DWP Juvenile 4 Couple, Juvenile 6 Couple and Junior 6 Couple Latin American teams all won titles, whilst the Junior 4 Couple team and the DWP Youth team just missed out on winning against very strong competition. In the couples competitions, many DWP dancers picked up Ballroom and Latin titles and medals. Very well done to you all.

The Northern Masters was a huge success with its combination of both competitive and fun events (e.g. Adult and child Waltz and Cha Cha Cha, dancers from different dance schools dancing together, the 6 legged jive). In particular, the inclusion of the Youth formation competition is enabling formation dancers over 16 years old to continue to compete at the very highest level.

The 2nd Northern Masters will be held at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011.

Tower Inferno 2010 dates coming soon

We will soon be able to give you the dates for this year's Tower Inferno events.

DWP's all new 2010 classes

Adult and Children's class timetable for lessons at the DWP Dance Studio in Preston. Both new beginners and experienced dancers are always very welcome at DWP and no partners are required for any of the classes. There are also Adult and Children's classes in Lytham on Mondays and Barrow on Thursdays.

New to dancing? Then learn to dance like the Stars with our Strictly Sunday classes and come along to Preston's hottest Salsa night - 'Club Inferno' every Wednesday from 8pm.

For children we have Cheerleading every Tuesday, under 12s 5.30pm-6.15pm and over 12s 6.15pm-7.30pm. On Thursday evenings we have our Street Dancing classes and on Saturdays we have Dance Zone! with a range of classes for all abilities from new beginners to British Champions.

Tower Inferno will return in 2010

On Friday 11th December 2009 at the Tower Inferno's Christmas Salsa Ball at Blackpool Tower Ballroom over 600 people danced the night away to the live music of Mojito on the World's largest sprung dance floor. We have more Tower Infernos lines up in 2010. Details to follow soon. If you want more salsa, every Wednesday we have the Club Inferno salsa night at the DWP Studio in Preston.

Over £16000 raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Many thanks to all those who supported the Chance to Dance Charity event held on Sunday 15th November 2009 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester. Jason and Shemayne organised and hosted the event which raised over £16000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Together with DWP's Anne Freeman, Jason and Shemayne taught over 250 people to dance in a day for a great cause. A review of the event can be found in The Bolton News newspaper article.

The DWP Latin Formation and Street dance teams performed, and there was the debut public outing by Connor Parkinson and his new dance partner Kimberly Jones.

Dancing and competing at Blackpool Tower Ballroom with DWP

			If you enjoyed seeing the Strictly Come Dancing Stars perform at Blackpool Tower Ballroom and want to dance on the same floor, then come along to Dance with Passion's next Tower Inferno salsa event. It will be a great night of lessons and Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and Bachata music on the World's largest sprung dance floor. Beginners lessons are at 8pm, Intermediate lessons are at 8.40pm and Advanced lessons are at 9.20pm. Social dancing is from 10pm to 2am. 			If you fancy emulating your favourite Strictly Stars by competing on the World's most famous dance floor then join one of the DWP Latin American formation teams or cheerleading teams. New members are always welcome. DWP and Starlite School of Dance (London) are holding the 1st Northern Masters Formation Competition at Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 6th February 2010. There will be Juvenile (12 and under), Junior (12 - 16) and Youth (16+) formation competitions.

Monday 5th - Sunday 11th April 2010 - 53rd Blackpool Junior Dance Festival. The Blackpool Junior Dance Festival, the largest Junior dance festival in the World for children aged 16 and under, moves from the Tower Ballroom to the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens for the 2010 competition. Last year the formation competitions were held on the Saturday and Sunday of the Festival. Previous results from 2007, 2008 and 2009. Future Date: Monday 25th April - Sunday 1st May 2011.

Saturday 17th April 2010 7.30pm - British Professional Latin Champions Gregor Rebula and Rachael Heron in 'Night of the Stars' at DWP Studio in Preston.

Thursday 27th May - Friday 4th June 2010 - The 85th Blackpool Dance Festival is being held at the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The Festival is one of the World's most prestigious dance festivals. It covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, plus Latin and Ballroom Formation Teams. In 2009 there were 1,808 couples from 60 countries. Future Date: Thursday 26th May - Friday 3rd June 2011.

Friday 28th - Monday 31st May 2010 - out2dance dance festival 2010 is being held in Blackpool. Acts appearing at the out2dance 2009 dance festival included Ian Waite and Camilla Dallerup, Vincent and Flavia, Marquelle Ward from Britannia High and World salsa champions Chris Marques and Jaclyn Spencer. 2011 - 2nd Northern Masters Formation Competition is being held at Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Dance with Passion and Starlite School of Dance (Kent) present the 1st Northern Masters Formation Competition. There will be Juvenile, Junior and Youth (16+) formation competitions.

Blackpool Junior Dance Festival moves to Winter Gardens in 2010

The Blackpool Junior Dance Festival, the largest Junior dance festival in the World for children aged 16 and under, moves from the Tower Ballroom to the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens for the 2010 competition. The DWP Latin American formation teams have had great success at the Junior Dance Festivals (2007, 2008 and 2009 results), and DWP always welcome new members to their teams. So You Think You Can Dance and Move Like Michael Jackson

The BBC are looking for dancers for two of their new shows. BBC One's So You Think You Can Dance (applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age and closing date is 26th October 2009) and BBC Three's Move Like Michael Jackson (applicants must be 16 years of age and over).

On Sunday 30th August 2009 The DWP Latin American Showdance team and DWP's Street Dance teacher Marcquelle Ward appeared with 'Britain’s Got Talent' stars Diversity, George Sampson, Aiden Davis and Flava in Dance Tribute to Michael Jackson at the Blackpool Opera House. Also appearing were Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Eurovision and X-Factor star Andy Abraham. These sell out afternoon and evening performances were the finale to the United Dance Organisation (UDO) World Street Dance Championships 2009 held at the Blackpool Winter Gardens Friday 28th - Sunday 30th August 2009. Marcquelle Ward teaching Street Dance every Thursday at DWP Studio

Marcquelle is teaching street dance every Thursday from 6pm to 9pm at the DWP Studio in Preston. Those who have attended Marcquelle's classes have said how much they enjoyed them. DWP Latin American formation and Cheerleading teams always welcomes new members

We're now taking in new members for all our Latin American formation and cheerleading teams for the 2009-2010 season. We don't mind if you've not done formation dancing before as we will teach you all you need to know. If you are interested then contact us either by email, or call in at the DWP Studio.

Formation Teams Results - 2nd Formation Teachers Alliance (FTA) Championships at Coventry

At the 2nd Formation Teachers Alliance (FTA) Championships at Coventry on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June, Dance with Passion had another great set of results with all the DWP teams making the finals. The DWP Juvenile 4 couple team came 2nd, just missing out on retaining their title. The DWP Juvenile 6 couple 'Italia' team came 3rd. The DWP Junior 4 couple 'Happy Feet' team came 3rd and the DWP Junior 8 couple team came 7th. Many congratulations to all the teams. Official photos by Dance Images.

Brian and Kristina

			We've added photos of Brian Fortuna and Kristina Rihanoff's fabulous Cha Cha Cha, American Smooth, Mambo, Rumba and Hustle routines at Blackpool Tower Ballroom from Saturday 13th June on our Night of the Stars page, and a video of their Cha Cha Cha can be seen on blackpoolcam.co.uk. On Kristina's official fan website www.k-rihanoff.com there is a review of Brian and Kristina at the DWP Studio on Friday 12th June and there are photos of the couple at the DWP Studio and Blackpool Tower.
