Zumba with Jason and Joanne every Monday and Thursday - Join the Party!

DWP is the home of Zumba in Preston with fully qualified Zumba teachers Jason and Joanne.  They will be holding some special Zumba workshops, meaning double the fun and double the party!  Zumba classes are every Monday at 8.30pm and every Thursday at 6pm and 8.15pm.  Beginners are especially welcome. Latin formation teams -  New members welcome

Work has started on the new routines for all our Latin formation teams for Juveniles (11 and under), Juniors (11 to 16) and adults.  We are pleased to announce that this year's themes include Cirque du Soleil's "Viva Elvis" , "Around the World" and "Glam Rock".  It promises to be a great year.  Our Juvenile 4 and 8 couple teams were the highest placed English teams at this year's British 'Open to the World' Championship.  We are still taking new members for all our teams.  So, whether you have done formation before, or fancy giving it a try, contact us at the studio if you are interested in joining our successful teams.   

DWP Cheeleading Teams win titles at UKA Competition.

The DWP cheerleading teams has had continued success at the latest UKA Cheer competition at Blackpool Winter Gardens.  The DWP under 7s and DWP under 9s won the titles.  The DWP under 13s and DWP under 15s were runners up, and the DWP under 11s and the DWP Adults came 3rd place these.   These were a great set of results as all teams had new routines.  If you want to join our Cheer or Street teams then get in touch.

There is a new intermediate salsa class on Thursdays at 9pm with the newest members of DWP, Mckenzie Young and Emma Summer.  With the classes structured around leading and following, Mckenzie and Emma will be teaching the latest salsa turn patterns with style.  A Salsa and Bachata social dance follows after the class.

Blackpool Junior Dance Festival Results - DWP Double English Champions 2011

Well done to all the DWP Juvenile and Junior Latin American formation teams who on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2011 competed in the British 'Open to the World' Junior Formation Dance Championships at the 54th Blackpool Junior Dance Festival at the Empress Ballroom in the Blackpool Winter Gardens.

In both the Juvenile 4 Couple and Juvenile 8 Couple competitions DWP were the highest placed English team!  Many congratulations to all the Juveniles for being English Champions twice!  This is a fabulous result. As usual, the talented Welsh dance schools dominated the finals.  

Very well done to our Juniors, with the DWP Junior 4 Couple Team - 'Happy Feet' just missing out on getting to the final by 1 place.  The DWP Junior 8 Couple Team - 'The Beat' danced phenomenally well, but were competing against other Dance Schools who were fielding multiple teams and had dancers sometimes much older than our own, including a team from Hungary.

Jason and Shemayne are very proud of all the Juveniles and Juniors and would like to thank all the parents, family and friends who all year have given their support that has enabled DWP to be double English Champions in 2011.

Background Information on Scoring system used

In the first two rounds (first round and semi-final) each of the nine judges are allowed to award up to 20 marks giving a total of 180 marks.  A performance with no mistakes would be awarded 180 marks.  Depending on the number of teams in competition, either the top 9 or 12 teams then go through to semi-final (or Round 2) where again each judge again awards up to 20 marks and the best 6 teams go into the final.  No marks from the first round count towards the second round.

The marking in the final is different to the previous two rounds.  In the final each judges has to rank each team in order and all the judges' rankings are then combined together using the 'Skating System' to achieve a final set of results.  The  'Skating System' is complicated, but in general terms with nine judges, a majority of 5 best places is used to decide the overall winner.  For instance if a team got five 1st placings they would be the winners.  However, if two teams each got four 1st placing each, the winners would be based on the team with the most 2nd placings, and so on.  This means that a team need five good placings, and their lowest four are less important unless teams tie.

Chorley Studio

The Chorley Studio has now closed due to unforeseen circumstances.  We would like to thank all the customers for their support.  To accommodate some of the Chorley classes, we will be starting Improvers and Intermediate Ballroom and Latin classes on Tuesday nights at the Preston Studio starting 19th April at 8pm for Improvers and 8.45pm for Intermediates followed by a social dance.

All the children from the Chorley Street classes can come on Saturdays at 2.30pm for under 12s and 3.30pm for teens.  There are also the children's Saturday Dance Zone classes.

For all who came to the Chorley Salsa class we are arranging a Thursday Salsa class at the Preston Studio.

Adult and Children's class timetable for lessons at the DWP Dance Studio in Preston.  Both new beginners and experienced dancers are always very welcome at DWP and no partners are required for any of the classes.  There are also Adult classes in Lytham on Mondays and classes in Barrow on Thursdays.

New to dancing?  Then learn to dance like the Stars with our Strictly Sunday classes and come along to Preston's hottest Salsa night - 'Club Inferno' every Wednesday from 8pm.   For children we have Cheerleading every Tuesday, under 12s 5.30pm-6.15pm and over 12s 6.15pm-7.30pm.  On Saturdays we have Dance Zone! with a range of classes for all abilities from new beginners to British Champions.

The UK’s premier international Salsa DJ Lubi Jovanovic releases his 35th compilation CD in May and his 16th for Nascente Records of London. Dance with Passion couples and teams had a great day at the 16th Dance and Listen Awards Competition on Sunday 9th May 2010 at Watford Colleseum, Rickmansworth Road, Watford, WD17 3JN www.danceandlisten.co.uk.

The DWP Latin formation teams won 3 Dance and Listen Awards titles and also gained a runners-up position.  Very well done to all the DWP teams.

The DWP Juvenile 4 Couple team - Lou Bega are Dance and Listen Awards Champions for the 3rd year running.

The DWP Juvenile 7 Couple team - Italia are Dance and Listen Awards Champions.

The DWP Junior 4 Couple team - Strictly Ballroom are runners-up.

On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April 2010 all the DWP Latin Formation Teams are again competing in the British 'Open to the World' Junior Formation Dance Championships at the 53rd Blackpool Junior Dance Festival.  This is the largest and most prestigious Junior dance Championships in the World.  In a change to previous years, this year's event is being held at the Empress Ballroom at Blackpool Winter Gardens.

DWP win at 1st Northern Masters at Blackpool Tower Ballroom

Many congratulations to all the teams and couples from the various dance schools who performed at the 1st Northern Masters competition at Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 6th February 2010. 

It was a very successful competition for DWP.  In the formation competitions, the DWP Juvenile 4 Couple, Juvenile 6 Couple and Junior 6 Couple Latin American teams all won titles, whilst the Junior 4 Couple team and the DWP Youth team just missed out on winning against very strong competition.  In the couples competitions, many DWP dancers picked up Ballroom and Latin titles and medals.  Very well done to you all.

The Northern Masters was a huge success with its combination of both competitive and fun events (e.g. Adult and child Waltz and Cha Cha Cha, dancers from different dance schools dancing together, the 6 legged jive).  In particular, the inclusion of the Youth formation competition is enabling formation dancers over 16 years old to continue to compete at the very highest level.

The 2nd Northern Masters will be held at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011.

DWP's all new 2010 classes

Adult and Children's class timetable for lessons at the DWP Dance Studio in Preston.  Both new beginners and experienced dancers are always very welcome at DWP and no partners are required for any of the classes.  There are also Adult and Children's classes in Lytham on Mondays and Barrow on Thursdays.

New to dancing?  Then learn to dance like the Stars with our Strictly Sunday classes and come along to Preston's hottest Salsa night - 'Club Inferno' every Wednesday from 8pm.   For children we have Cheerleading every Tuesday, under 12s 5.30pm-6.15pm and over 12s 6.15pm-7.30pm.  On Thursday evenings we have our Street Dancing classes and on Saturdays we have Dance Zone! with a range of classes for all abilities from new beginners to British Champions.

Tower Inferno will return in 2010

  

On Friday 11th December 2009 at the Tower Inferno's Christmas Salsa Ball at Blackpool Tower Ballroom over 600 people danced the night away to the live music of Mojito on the World's largest sprung dance floor.  We have more Tower Infernos lines up in 2010.  Details to follow soon.  If you want more salsa, every Wednesday we have the Club Inferno salsa night at the DWP Studio in Preston.

Over £16000 raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care

Many thanks to all those who supported the Chance to Dance Charity event held on Sunday 15th November 2009 at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.  Jason and Shemayne organised and hosted the event which raised over £16000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.  Together with DWP's Anne Freeman, Jason and Shemayne taught over 250 people to dance in a day for a great cause.  A review of the event can be found in The Bolton News newspaper article.     The DWP Latin Formation and Street dance teams performed, and there was the debut public outing by Connor Parkinson and his new dance partner Kimberly Jones.

Dancing and competing at Blackpool Tower Ballroom with DWP

			If you enjoyed seeing the Strictly Come Dancing Stars perform at Blackpool Tower Ballroom and want to dance on the same floor, then come along to Dance with Passion's next Tower Inferno salsa event.  It will be a great night of lessons and Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha and Bachata music on the World's largest sprung dance floor.  Beginners lessons are at 8pm, Intermediate lessons are at 8.40pm and Advanced lessons are at 9.20pm.  Social dancing is from 10pm to 2am.  For ticket enquiries & bookings call Blackpool Live on 0844 856 1111.
			If you fancy emulating your favourite Strictly Stars by competing on the World's most famous dance floor then join one of the DWP Latin American formation teams or cheerleading teams.  New members are always welcome.  DWP and Starlite School of Dance (London) are holding the 1st Northern Masters Formation Competition at Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 6th February 2010.  There will be Juvenile (12 and under), Junior (12 - 16) and Youth (16+) formation competitions.

Thursday 27th May - Friday 4th June 2010 - The 85th Blackpool Dance Festival is being held at the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.  The Festival is one of the World's most prestigious dance festivals.  It covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, plus Latin and Ballroom Formation Teams.  In 2009 there were 1,808 couples from 60 countries.  Future Date: Thursday 26th May - Friday 3rd June 2011.

Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011 - 2nd Northern Masters Formation Competition is being held at Blackpool Tower Ballroom.  Dance with Passion and Starlite School of Dance (Kent) present the 1st Northern Masters Formation Competition.  There will be Juvenile, Junior and Youth (16+) formation competitions. 

Monday 25th April - Sunday 1st May 2011 - 54th Blackpool Junior Dance Festival.  The Blackpool Junior Dance Festival, the largest Junior dance festival in the World for children aged 16 and under, is held at the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens.  In 2010 the formation competitions were held on the Saturday and Sunday of the Festival.  Previous results from 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Blackpool Junior Dance Festival moves to Winter Gardens in 2010

The Blackpool Junior Dance Festival, the largest Junior dance festival in the World for children aged 16 and under, moves from the Tower Ballroom to the Empress Ballroom in the Winter Gardens for the 2010 competition.  Press release announcing the move.  The DWP Latin American formation teams have had great success at the Junior Dance Festivals (2007, 2008 and 2009 results), and DWP always welcome new members to their teams.  If you would like to join, then please get in touch.  Times of formation rehearsals can be found on the Children's class timetable.  The DWP Latin formation teams can be seen in these videos.

We're now taking in new members for all our Latin American formation and cheerleading teams for the 2009-2010 season.  We don't mind if you've not done formation dancing before as we will teach you all you need to know.  If you are interested then contact us either by email, or call in at the DWP Studio.

Formation Teams Results - 2nd Formation Teachers Alliance (FTA) Championships at Coventry

At the 2nd Formation Teachers Alliance (FTA) Championships at Coventry on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June, Dance with Passion had another great set of results with all the DWP teams making the finals.  The DWP Juvenile 4 couple team came 2nd, just missing out on retaining their title.  The DWP Juvenile 6 couple 'Italia' team came 3rd.  The DWP Junior 4 couple 'Happy Feet' team came 3rd and the DWP Junior 8 couple team came 7th.  Many congratulations to all the teams.  Official photos by Dance Images.
